Good! :
- My lunch! Let me show you it:
It consists of: quinoa, red lentils, black lentils, garbanzo beans, broccoli, white mushrooms, toasted sesame seeds, nori flakes, a little bit of ground flax, and a little bit of soy sauce. Yum. I am eating it as I type!
- I picked a topic for my Art of Research project! woo!
- Visiting friends tonight!
- Yesterday I learned how to use power tools. I now possess knowledge of how to use a band saw, a drill press, and a lathe. I am most excited about the lathe. It seems like my kind of tool. It and I have an understanding.
- Thomas and I will have been together for 2 years tomorrow. Pretty neat!
- I sort of hate to keep yanking things from Drawn!, but they featured another thing that I thought was really amazing and wanted to share. It's an animation made of paintings done on walls, graffiti style. It was done by an Italian street artist called Blu. Click here to watch it on his vimeo page. It is massively impressive.
Bad! :
- Working in the [um I don't know what it's called... the power tool room?] at school and inhaling large amounts of sawdust makes my nose all congested and dry. That is an especially bad thing for me because a dry inner-nose = nosebleed city. I woke up last night with a minor one. Maybe I should get some of that dumb nasal spray.
- While I will get to see Jeff and Ruth, I will not get to see Tommi, who will only be around during the time slot of my digital illustration class. :(
- Sunday was the stupidest driving day ever. I don't want to type out the whole thing, but just know that it sucked and that AAA is the Mario to my Princess Toadstool.
Neutral! :
- My hairs are getting long and I feel like I should cut them?
The Rules:
Each player starts with 8 random facts/habits about themselves. People who are tagged, write a blog post about their own 8 random things, and post these rules. At the end of your post you need to tag 8 people and include their names. Don’t
forget to leave them a comment on their blog and tell them they’ve been
tagged, and to come back and read your blog for the whole story.
My eight random habits and/or facts:
- When I brush my teeth, I wet the toothbrush, apply the toothpaste, wet the toothbrush again, and then brush my teeth. The prospect of not getting the toothbrush wet both times before I brush makes me extremely uncomfortable.
- I also can't stand the idea of--when I am washing my hands--putting soap on my hands before getting them wet. Gross gross gross.
- I have never eaten a taco, a burrito, an enchilada, a quesadilla, or baked/refried beans... among many other common food items (not necessarily of the Mexican variety).
- When I was little I tried to have an imaginary friend, but it didn't work.
- I have to do a big research project and presentation for my Art of Research class and I have no hint of an idea what my topic should be :(.
- I like the words bumblebee, rollerskate, idyll, garbanzo, elixir, spiraling, coconut, superfluous, and extravaganza.
- I really like the number 4.
- I want to live in a house that contains secret passages.
It is about picky eating being a genetically-inherited trait...
"New foods with strange textures literally frightened her."
Today I ate oatmeal for the first time in my life.
It was okay!
Today:
...was the first day of Art Center orientation. It was very, very long but somehow mostly enjoyable. I am very excited.
...the weather is good
...I made brown basmati rice with lentils, raisins, grapes, and applesauce (added on a whim, and decidedly successful), and it was pretty good. It probably would have been better if I had salt.
Grocery shopping list:
- salt
Only nine more days of Arrested Development download to go! :\
Also, watch this please:
I miss WinCo! The closest WinCo location to me is still the Lancaster WinCo! 52.5 miles! Too far! I need bulk bins! I need 30 different varieties of nuts and dried fruits and mixes and spices--all at reasonable prices and IN BULK. So saaadd. WinCo, please expand your business southward.

I AM EATING THE MOST DELICIOUS SANDWICH I WISH YOU COULD TASTE IT
Make it at home! Ingredients: 2 slices Sara Lee whole wheat bread, an end piece on the bottom; 1/2 of one small, fetus-shaped heirloom tomato; red lettuce; shredded carrots; sliced white mushrooms; bean sprouts; small amount of peanut sauce.
I'm so glad I finally went grocery shopping.
hello, hello.
Today was a nice day.
I really like riding my bike. I wish that there were prettier areas in which to bicycle around here, and I wish that people here were more bicycle-friendly (I ride on the sidewalks because half of the time there is no bike lane and there is no way I would trust the people around here to respect me and my space if I were to ride in the street [I don't think most people around here even know that bike-riding in the street is allowed]), but it still makes me very happy.
I paid my $27 parking ticket. I got a parking ticket for leaving my car on the street in front of Thomas's house on street-sweeping day a couple of mornings ago. I was very sad about it. Why do I feel so guilty about things that do not even phase other people? I didn't even realize that I'd gotten a ticket until the next day, after my dad found it under my windshield wiper and brought it to my attention. I sure am oblivious. How will I ever live on my own. I will be expected to take care of myself. ha.
My parents are cruising to Canada at the moment. I honestly do not see the appeal of cruises. I mean I can see how they would appeal to them. But to me they sound pretty awful. Oh well. I am holding down the fort over here for the next week, anyway. yep.
blegh I am so ready to be done with school. AVC, I mean. I think my favorite class this semester is math? It is the only course I am taking where my mind is actually engaged for the entirity of the class. And solving math problems is fun like how solving newspaper games (crossword, word search, jumble, sudoku) is fun. Once you have the formula down, it's just occupying and zen-like. fun. This is the last math class I will probably ever take and I am almost sad about it.
If anyone knows a way to prepare beans (any type of beans) in a way so as to make them not disgusting, I'd like to hear about it. I had a bad canned-bean experience and my faith in the goodness of beans has been shaken. My criteria for a Good Bean: NOT MUSHY. For some reason I'd had it in my mind that beans would be sort of firm and crisp... I was imagining something like what you would get if you rolled up a piece of lettuce extremely tightly into a small, hard-ish shape. What I got was a mouth full of mush and I was sorely disappointed. But I have not lost all hope for beans! I am trying to broaden my food horizons here, and I am willing to give them another go. If anyone who reads this knows how I might achieve my condensed-lettuce ideal bean consistency, please let me know.
