What's your favorite song with "America" or "USA" in the title? Bonus points if you share it with us.
This is "American Way", a song by my friend Mark Morrison's band, Fisher J. Price, about a thrift store in Lancaster called the American Way. It reminds me of good times in the Antelope Valley.
As it happens, I bought a couple of good shirts at the American Way just yesterday.
Unrelatedly, I am happy because I just had a nice customer service call with my bank and the woman who took my call was very helpful and nice and I got a couple of things sorted out that had been bothering me for a while. So yay for good customer service and yay for bank business being taken care of.
Also unrelatedly, I am sculpting a plesiosaur. I will use it to make a plesiosaur mold with which I will be able to make hundreds of little plesiosaurs in bronze or aluminum or gold or plastic or Nerf-style squishy foam or soap or chocolate or etc. Pretty cool.
Good! :
- My lunch! Let me show you it:
It consists of: quinoa, red lentils, black lentils, garbanzo beans, broccoli, white mushrooms, toasted sesame seeds, nori flakes, a little bit of ground flax, and a little bit of soy sauce. Yum. I am eating it as I type!
- I picked a topic for my Art of Research project! woo!
- Visiting friends tonight!
- Yesterday I learned how to use power tools. I now possess knowledge of how to use a band saw, a drill press, and a lathe. I am most excited about the lathe. It seems like my kind of tool. It and I have an understanding.
- Thomas and I will have been together for 2 years tomorrow. Pretty neat!
- I sort of hate to keep yanking things from Drawn!, but they featured another thing that I thought was really amazing and wanted to share. It's an animation made of paintings done on walls, graffiti style. It was done by an Italian street artist called Blu. Click here to watch it on his vimeo page. It is massively impressive.
Bad! :
- Working in the [um I don't know what it's called... the power tool room?] at school and inhaling large amounts of sawdust makes my nose all congested and dry. That is an especially bad thing for me because a dry inner-nose = nosebleed city. I woke up last night with a minor one. Maybe I should get some of that dumb nasal spray.
- While I will get to see Jeff and Ruth, I will not get to see Tommi, who will only be around during the time slot of my digital illustration class. :(
- Sunday was the stupidest driving day ever. I don't want to type out the whole thing, but just know that it sucked and that AAA is the Mario to my Princess Toadstool.
Neutral! :
- My hairs are getting long and I feel like I should cut them?
Oh wait I almost forgot.
Last week, out of nowhere but the kindness of a couple of people's hearts, Thomas and I were invited to go spend 2 days at Disneyland with some of Thomas's relatives. It was a childhood dream come true. When I was little I always wanted to spend the night at Disneyland and my parents were always like "Maybe some day" which meant "No", and I believed that it would never happen. But it DID happen--just last week--and it was probably nearly as magical as it would've been if I were still seven years old.
Continuing the teacup photos tradition (see right, with Stephanie and Tommy and Alison's arm!), here is Thomas spinning to his doom in an oversized cup of tea.
I traveled for Thanksgiving, and these are a few of the creatures I ran into:
failure tofurkey
Kevin Costner movie marathon
I now own a millipede
The Shaggy Dog, revisited
a delicious sandwich
an inappropriate picnic memory game
fog like ghosts and swamp lights like daylight

Only two more weeks of school. Tomorrow is going to be one seriously homework-packed day and night, but such has become the norm for Tuesdays. It'll all get done. because it has to.
My comp and drawing class's cadaver-poking trip has been canceled, which is a really big bummer. I'd been looking forward to it :(. Maybe I'll get to go next term.
My Ebola board game is coming along.
I'm such a dumbshit. Tomorrow is the big Thomas/friends/Ween day in San Francisco. Right now I am in Lancaster, seeing my parents before I head off, and I just realized that I forgot to bring two important items: my and Thomas's concert tickets. They are in Pasadena. The only things I forgot. It's not a huge deal, they are only an hour away (two hours out of the way to San Francisco), but gah. If I'd gone ahead and driven six to seven hours to SF before realizing I didn't have the tickets, I would've stabbed myself in the face. But aside from my dumbness: yay ween and Thomas and friends! Very happy.
In other news, we've finally gotten to the "hands" part of "heads and hands" and today I spent about 9 hours steadily drawing hands for this week's h&h homework. Hands hands hands. Soo many hands. My own right hand is very tired now but I'm relieved to have it out of the way, since the plan is for me to drive back to Pasadena from SF early Monday morning, arriving just in time for class. Cutting it close?
